Report
With a brisk chill factor prevalent throughout the afternoon the eleven who met to contest the latest Autotest were glad the test routes were short fast ones.
There were three new first time competitors prepared to toe the line to contest the four test routes. Father and son duo Roy and Jordan Brown were both to discover the deceptive nature of the test routes even though competitors are given copies of the tests at the start. Both Roy and Jordan picked up penalties for wrong route incidents and for striking course markers and were, not surprisingly for rookie competitors, tail enders on this occasion with eleventh and ninth final position. The higher position went to Roy but we can perhaps anticipate a healthy competition for future events.
Splitting them into tenth place was co first time entrant Corey Symonds who drove well but threw away a better result by going the wrong way on test three.
Johnny MacKay, as usual, drove well but hit a couple of markers with his MGZR and had to settle for eighth.
Iain Spence was another to hit a course marker with his Renault Clio and his final position was seventh.
Ahead, in sixth place was Colin McAllister at the wheel of his rapid green Mazda MX5. Colin double entered this car either as a 'special' (with the hood down) and standard (with the hood up). In theory the advantage should be with the hood down but a wrong route put paid to this idea leaving the 'special' in sixth spot.
Adam Eddington pressed the road legal Corsa into service once more but only managed a fifth position on this occasion due to incurring penalties for striking course markers.
Long time Club member Alan Tait was double entered in a VW Polo and a Vauxhall Corsa with which his smooth driving style took him to fourth with the Corsa in third.
Colin McAllister made no mistakes with his standard MX5 and, although at times looking to over cooking it, eventually made it to the line in second place.
Andrew Moar once again entered the long suffering Subaru Justy. It always seems that more parts are missing but despite this and the mechanical clatter emitted by the engine Andrew ragged the little car to overall fastest in three out of four of the tests.
As Andrew tightens his grip on the Championship it remains to be seen who will offer him a challenge at the next event on the 7th June.
