Report

Competitors entered in the penultimate Autotest of the season were rewarded on Sunday with glorious weather and a nice slick surface to compete on. Both the test routes were fast and tight but this resulted in an unusual number of penalties awarded, particularly for wrong route infringements.

Aaron Moar shared his MGTF drive with Karen Laughton and, although Karen was not as fast as Aaron, she did not make the lurid errors resulting in eighty penalties. The upshot was eighth place for Aaron beaten by Karen in seventh and also picking up the Lady's award for the day.

Colin MacAllister was entered in two categories with the hood of his Mazda MX5 up and down, the latter attracting a 5% time penalty. He was one of many tripped up by test three when he reinvented the test by rotating around a post too many times, this left him in sixth with the hood down.

Adam Eddington was another to be awarded penalties for a wrong route. He also took out a marker post that was almost overlooked by the timekeepers. Adam's Vauxhall Corsa lurched around ending in fifth place despite his car crying out for damper mods.

Johnny MacKay's bright blue MGZR was hustled around the tests in fine style and seemed set for a podium finish but, not for the first time, he lucked out on the very last test and had to settle for fourth spot.

Third place and in the awards, Colin MacAllister brought home the MX5 penalty free despite accepted wisdom having it that he should have been better with the hood down.

The Moar brothers, Andrew and Aaron, were once again entered in the trusty Subaru Justy and once again opinion divided as to who was fastest. But the stopwatch never lies and, despite Aaron seeming nearer the rough edge, Andrew was able to claw a few time points back and take the top step on the podium and the day's win.

The next and final event of the Autotest season will be held on the 6th September at Caldale when Championship Awards will be presented.
