Report

At the start of an Autotest event the entrants are provided with an A4 sheet showing the correct route to be taken, there are two different test routes, each to be attempted twice. So it was that competitors were confronted with a first test that seemed painfully complex and a second less so, as it turned out penalties for wrong route violations were evenly spread across the board, with the second test proving more difficult than originally thought.

Jordan Brown, entered in the 'Young Driver' category was bogged down with a shed load of route penalties but nonetheless turned in a quick improved performance in his VW Polo.

Johnny MacKay took his MGZR around the routes in his usual style but fell victim to test three and four picking up ninety points, dropping him to ninth place.

The Moar brothers had double entered their trusty Subaru Justy and right from the start put in fastest times with their hard worked mount. The strain, however, came to a head resulting in a front suspension failure and automatic side-line to the pits. They also entered their MGTF but several penalties resulted in Aaron only being able to achieve eighth place on this occasion.

In seventh place Alan Tait was out with his VW Polo shared with his son Steven. He put in a careful, albeit moderately paced run, with only one ten point penalty for decapitating a course marker.

Ahead of Alan, in sixth place, was Andrew Moar sharing the drive with Aaron in the MGTF. Andrew was another to fall foul of test three resulting in this low, for him, position.

Recent new member Adam Eddington was at the wheel of a Vauxhall Corsa and demonstrated that a fault free run can achieve championship points without the more lurid approach and tyre shredding alternative.

Adam was kept off the first step of the podium by Roy Brown who put in a sterling penalty free drive to take a well deserved third place.

Colin MacAllister double entered his trusty Mazda MX5 in both regular and special categories, the latter attracting a 5% time penalty due to the perceived advantage of having the hood lowered. As it turned out the handicap was greater than the advantage as Colin achieved fifth place with the hood down and second place with the hood up!

Colin was very rapid but Steven Tait was even swifter and by just two points grabbed the top step of the podium.

With two new devilish test routes to challenge them the Club Members meet on 26th July at Caldale to contest the last of the final three events of our season.
